Vision panels can prevent potentially life-threatening circumstances in the event of a fire, by adding another layer of fire resistance to the door set/building – size and configuration options for vision panels are nearly endless.
Building Regulations stipulates that a vision panel should be included in entrance and internal doors where the door leaf or side panel is wider than 450mm (other than for reasons of security). Vision panels are also required if doors are on escape routes, sub-divide corridors and on double swing doors.
The Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) works to protect those with disabilities – including the blind and partially sighted – from discrimination.
DDA states: – “Users should be able to view people approaching the other side of the door to avoid collision.“
